Cut Knife RCMP are investigating the possible drowning of a 60-year-old man at a regional park in the area.

They report received a call around 1:55 p.m. July 10 that an unknown male had drowned in a lake at Atton's Regional Park.

RCMP, ambulance and fire and rescue attended the scene. Upon arrival, RCMP say they spoke with witnesses who said they observed an elderly male struggling to stay afloat in the water and calling for help.

According to police, the male was on an inflatable lounge chair, but somehow got separated from it. He had been about 50 meters from the shoreline. A witness attempted to rescue the male but was not successful. After the male failed to surface the witness contacted the RCMP.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was on site July 11 to begin the search for the man. The RCMP adds they cannot confirm the identity of the individual until he is recovered.

Unconfirmed reports late Tuesday indicate the body has been located.
