Battlefords RCMP conducted a targeted enforcement strategy Nov. 5-9 with a focus on repeat and violent offenders in the community, their associates and residential locations, according to a press release from Sgt. Darcy Woollfitt.
The strategy involved detachment members, Municipal GIS, Provincial GIS and Serious Violent Offender Reduction Program personnel. Also working in co-operation with the initiative were Saskatoon and Prince Albert Integrated Intelligence Units.
Woollfitt said there were between 10 and 14 officers working each night in addition to the usual detachment compliment.
During the blitz, traffic stops resulted in 140 tickets issued, two seizures of drug paraphernalia and one weapon was found.
While enforcing curfew and conditions, 27 individuals were checked with 13 breach charges laid.
Ten individuals were arrested for outstanding Criminal Code offences.
A total of 69 pedestrians were checked and spoken to and police made 14 bar checks as well as looking in on licensed social gatherings.
One stolen vehicle was located and four perpetrators fled from the vehicle. Police say the area was contained while the police dog service tracked two of the four. According to the release, 17 criminal code charges have been laid against three known gang members.
"This targeted enforcement strategy is part of the Battlefords RCMP overall crime reduction strategy," states Woolfitt in the release.
"Initiatives such as this will continue to be conducted in the Battlefords in support of safer communities."
