It was a busy night for the Reid-Thompson Public Library as they kicked off their TD Summer Reading Program with their registration night on June 26.
Around 65 young people registered with the program during the night and registration is open for young people throughout the summer.
Librarian Michael Langhorst says summer reading is a way to get kids away from the screens and get them into the library to read.
Kids get rewarded for their summer reading as well, they can take part in games and activities throughout the summer with every week also including a special guest to the library.
Registration night special guest, Jeff Burton, knows the importance of getting kids to read during the summer months and as the author of Humboldt’s own superhero, Auroraman, he had the opportunity to promote reading through comic books.
Burton is also one of the founding members of the Canadian Comic Book Alliance, a joint effort by Canadian comic book authors and illustrators to spread their homegrown stories.
For both personal and professional reasons, Burton wants to give back to the summer reading program, he says.
“My kids all took part in it when they were younger and still love going to the library to check out what new to them books they can find.”
Schedules for the summer reading program can be found at the Reid-Thompson Public Library.
