The Reclaim Outreach Centre, the emergency shelter for the homeless located at 962-102nd St. in North Battleford, applied to Battleford Town Council for support Jan. 14.
The letter was not a request for funding, but for Battleford's town council to support the centre as it applies for funding at the provincial level. In Don Toovey's letter, he stated that the centre endeavours "to work towards a better future for all the residents of the community."
At a council meeting Jan. 23, Councillor Garth Walls spoke up to give his support for the shelter.
"Don's program, they've already got an infrastructure in place, they've got people in place, and they're already providing a number of services." Walls sais.
"I know there are some other people in the community who realize that this is a need for this in the community, but I think the Reclaim Outreach Centre has already proven that they can provide the service."
Walls concluded by stating he "would like to stand behind this group and help support them to move forward in this endeavour," and council voted to write a letter of recommendation for the Reclaim Outreach Centre.
