Battleford is having a record year for construction.
Monday evening Battleford town councillors received a building permit summary for August, indicating more than $20 million in construction has been authorized so far this year.
It's the highest since about 2010, said Mayor Derek Mahon.
August saw four permits issued for residential construction worth just under $700,000, bringing the year-to-date total to $20,211,790. During the same time last year, permits values had reached only $4.5 million.
A hefty chunk of this year's construction values are attributed to permits issued for a 24-unit apartment complex worth $5.6 million, two industrial truck storage buildings worth $90,000 and $120,000, and a metal tank fabrication plant worth $6.7 million.
Residential construction values are up significantly as well. Last year to date there were 26 residential permits issued worth approximately $3.5 million. This year, there have been 44 permits issued worth approximately $12.8 million.
Council also approved two more residential building permits, one for a garage worth $7,000 and another for a house on Battle Spring Terrace, the Town's newest subdivision, worth $325,000.
In other business, councillors approved a discretionary use application to allow the former Five Star Motel at 312 - 22nd St. W. to be converted to a multiple unit dwelling.
Council also approved the discretionary use application for a retail warehouse to be built on three lots in the industrial park.
