In the wake of the terrible weekend flooding throughout the eastern portion of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Red Cross is offering help with a Recovery and Information line..
Those impacted by the floods are encouraged to call the toll-free Recovery Assistance and Information Line at 1-888-953-3463.
Messages can be left at that line 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All calls are confidential and will be returned by a Red Cross worker.
According to the Red Cross a wide range of recovery assistance is available and may include housing, food, transportation, household repair and clean-up materials. It also includes help getting back to work and replacement of essential personal items. Caseworkers from the Red Cross will also be available to work with individuals and families to identify needs and available resources.
You can also donate by calling 1-800-418-1111 or online at www.redcross.ca/skflood and earmark their donations for Saskatchewan Floods.
"The Canadian Red Cross is committed to supporting Saskatchewan families affected by flooding throughout the duration of the disaster," says Kim MacLean, provincial disaster management lead for the Red Cross. "We expect to hear from more and more people as the rain subsides and people have a chance to assess the full damage."
The assistance from the Canadian Red Cross is in addition to any other available assistance being offered. The province has offered the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program to those who have been impacted.
So far at least 53 communities have declared states of emergency following the flooding, the result of a deluge of rain in eastern Saskatchewan over the weekend. Among the communities hard-hit by the flooding were Yorkton, Melville, Moosomin, Gainsborough, Redvers and Carnduff.
