Regina man arrested for dangerous driving in Orange Zone

A 42-year-old Regina motorist has been arrested for allegedly travelling 134 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone near Maidstone on Highway 16.

A 42-year-old Regina motorist has been arrested for allegedly travelling 134 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone near Maidstone on Highway 16.

The man, operating an SUV, was travelling through radar enforcement set up by RCMP Sunday at the site of a bridge replacement project five kilometers southeast of the town.

Police say the driver was and arrested and faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, a Criminal Codeoffence.He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court Nov. 21.

Police impounded the vehicle, and the owner must participate in a hearing before the Highway Traffic Board before it is released back to him.

The Orange Zone radar enforcement was among a variety of enforcement activities carried out by North Central RCMP Traffic Services members throughout the Thanksgiving weekend. RCMP members from Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and North Battleford participated.

During this particular operation a total of 50 charges were laid for various offences, including 23 chargesfor speeding in the Orange Zone.

"Remember to slow to 60 km/h in the Orange Zone when passing highway workers and equipment," urges Sgt. Ron MacRae of North Central District Traffic Services.

"Highway construction and maintenance zones can be dangerous. Reduce your speed, use extra care and save lives."
