After teaching in Unity for several years, instructor Lynsey Strus started "Revolution Dance" in September of 2013.

She works in conjunction with the Unity School of Dance, which is a non-profit organization supporting dancers through fundraising activities. Strus says the support of the executive of the Unity School of Dance began her journey as studio owner. In August of 2013 her family purchased a home in Unity to become part of the community she had grown to love. Strus's family consists of her husband Mathew and their two daughters Emma, 8, and Avery, 6.

"We feel blessed to have been made to feel welcome in the community by many new and old friends," Strus says. "We are excited to be part of Unity and take part in the many wonderful events and opportunities Unity has to offer."

Dancers start their season in September. Classes are offered in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, pointe and hip hop. Eighty-three Students practise all season for competitions held in the spring as well as individual testing. So far in 2014, Revolution Dance has competed in Saskatoon Humboldt and Battleford dance festivals.

The dance school will be holding their first annual showcase, Live for the Applause, in the Unity Composite High School senior gym May 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. nightly.

Revolution Dance dancers took part in the RAD vocational exams in Saskatoon and all were successful. In March, a number of the tap students successfully completed tap exams.

The Revolution Dance Studio has students from Unity as well as Cut Knife, and some Wilkie students, and Strus says, "We welcome the talents brought forth by these communities as well as our own."
