An Edmonton man is saddling up and riding his horse across Canada to raise awareness of child exploitation.
Alick Brooke is a retired chief information officer of Alberta Children's Services, and has worked with children in some capacity for over 38 years. He founded the Angel Express Society in December 2010 to "raise public awareness on the impact and costs of child exploitation on the survivors and society as a whole."
Through his ride, he hopes to raise a total of $1 million for organizations that deal with child exploitation. Though some proportion will go to organizations that deal with the criminal aspect of the problem, the majority of the funds will go to programs that provide support to children who are victims of exploitation.
The 4,000 kilometre journey from Edmonton to Halifax started May 9 and should arrive in North Battleford some time in the late afternoon May 17. For more information, or to donate, visit www.theangelexpress.com
