The RM of Moose Range’s council is calling for a law change that will require hunters to seek permission before entering private land.

That’s one of two resolutions the RM voted at its Feb. 8 meeting to send to the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities in the hopes it will be debated among the province’s RMs at that organization’s conference March 13 and 14.

The RM believes that requirement would reduce the concern farmers have about damage to property, livestock and crops.

The other resolution is related to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program, something the RM had to deal with after the flooding seen in summer 2016.

Right now, the municipality has to pay deductible of 0.10 per cent of its taxable assessment, while private owners only pay five per cent of the damage. The RM wants it changed so that it pays five per cent of the eligible expenses per claim up to 0.10 per cent of its taxable assessment. It hopes that should reduce some of the financial burden it faces after a natural disaster.

The council also approved expenses for a number of meetings, including the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities convention, a Power Mobile Equipment Evaluator Train the Trainer course, the Weyerhaeuser Timberlands Appreciation Luncheon in Hudson Bay, a Strategic and Financial Planning for Municipalities event in Saskatoon, a Planning 101 Workshop in Nipawin, and the Hudson Bay Route Association annual general meeting in Swan River, Man.
