RM seats filled by acclamation

Nominations closed Sept. 19 for elections in rural municipalities across Saskatchewan, and a number of races are already over.

Nominations closed Sept. 19 for elections in rural municipalities across Saskatchewan, and a number of races are already over.

Several RMs will have no elections at all for reeve or for the odd-numbered council seats that were up for grabs, although some RM voters will have a decision to make at the polls for reeve or council in the Oct. 24 vote. In the RMs, only half of the council seats are up for grabs.

Here is the rundown of the nomination and election situation in the surrounding RMs.

Eldon: Incumbent Reeve Garry Taylor will be going up against Donald Young in the reeve's race. Councillors in by acclamation are Les Smith, Victor Hult and Janie Dick.

Frenchman Butte: All positions were filled by acclamation: Reeve B. Bonnie Mills-Midgley, and councillors Theodore Kretzer, Tom Hougham and Joe Nicodemus.

Glenside: David Klassen and Gerald (Gary) Hoppe are back in by acclaim in Division 1 and Division 3, but Division 5 will see a race for council between Robert Greer and Murray Owen, and the Reeve's race is between Kim Custer and Wade Parkinson.

Meeting Lake: The race in Division 1 is between incumbent Bernard Humen and challenger Curtis Babiy, but the two other incumbents Richard Taylor and Randy Aumack are back by acclaim. In the Reeve's race Dave Rogers is challenging incumbent Lyle Prescesky.

Meota: All candidates win by acclaim: Reeve Wilbert Fennig, and councillors Robert Stishenko, Edwin Tait and Sherry Jimmy.

Mervin: Georgina Pilling is the only acclaimed winner in Division 1, but the other races are all going to an election: Randy Domes is challenging incumbent Alex McDonald in Div.3, Evelyn Bloom is challenging incumbent William Bleakney in Division 5, and the reeve's race is between challenger Tom Brown and incumbent Harold Kivimaa.

Great Bend: Division 1 will see a three-way race between Greg Orchard, Lance Walker and Elizabeth Torrens. In Division 5 Ian Hosegood and Colin Elliot are running for that seat. All other candidates are in by acclaim: incumbent councillors Kim Maxwell and incumbent Reeve Ron Saunders.

Mayfield: All winners are by acclaim: Reeve Craig Hamilton and councillors Bryan Clair, Wayne Beaudoin and Myron Prescesky.

Medstead: Albert Schmirler is back as Reeve and Murray Short is back in Division 3. The only election is in Division 1 where Albert Klassen is challenging incumbent Stan Moore. Meanwhile, the RM is re-opening calls for nominations for the Division 5 seat.

Britannia: All candidates are in by acclaim: councillors Ed Noble, James Collins and Diann Tippe and Reeve John Light.

Parkdale: All councillors win by acclaim: Nathan Siklenka, Shannon Hood and John Koop. The Reeve's race is between incumbent James Robert Gourlay and Robert Pylypow.

Paynton: Winning council seats by acclaimation are Lloyd Bullock, Kristin Shantz and Owen Legaarden. The new Reeve is Kevin Garrett by acclaim.

Redberry: Reeve Don Paulow, who replaces Victor Hupaelo, is elected by acclamation. Mervin Sydoruk and Eugene Sass are also in by acclamation. There will be an election with Division 3 with Christopher Gonda and Doug Herring on the ballot.

North Battleford: Acclaimed are councillors Doug Wright, Geordie McKay and Rene Vany. The reeve's race is between Jim Rogers and Dan Bartko.

Battle River: Stewart Mitchell and Pat Scherman are elected by acclaim and Joe Beckman is in as Reeve by acclaim. Division 3 will go to an election between Shaun Jamieson and Barry Williams.

Douglas: All winners are by acclaim: councillors Hugh Foster, Walter Jess and Blair Jackson and Reeve Nick Partyka are all re-elected.

Round Hill: councillors Albert Combres and Gordon Moore are joined by new Div. 5 councillor Rob McNab and new Reeve Alvin Wiebe.

Turtle River: As in many RMs, there will be no need for an election as councillors Henry Brumby, Robert Blais and Henri Blaquiere and Reeve Louis McCaffrey, all incumbents, are re-elected by acclaim.
