Three individuals who face several charges following a Saskatoon robbery and a shoplifting in North Battleford were in court this week.

Colin Kaiswatum, 31, Melissa Charles, 30, and a 15-year-old who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act all made their initial appearances in court in North Battleford Tuesday.

Kaiswatum and Charles are each charged with possession of stolen property, theft and dangerous driving. The 15-year-old faces the same charges plus an additional charge of failing to comply with probation by failing to keep the peace.

The three are alleged to have stolen items from Jeans and Joggers in North Battleford on Monday afternoon. According to police, the suspects fled down 100th Street in a stolen vehicle, later confirmed to be from Saskatoon.

The vehicle was later reported stuck in a field northeast of the city and a search for suspects ensured for more than three hours. Involved in the search were RCMP Battlefords detachment members as well as dog units from North Battleford and Meadow Lake, and Saskatoon Police Service members. All three were eventually apprehended.

Following their initial court appearance Tuesday, all three remained remanded in custody. They appeared again in provincial court Wednesday before Judge Dan O'Hanlon, at which time new charges were read to them in connection to incidents in Saskatoon on May 12.

The three all face charges of robbery at an RBC branch, as well as committing an indictable offence by using a facemask, from that date.

Charles also faces additional charges of stealing merchandise from The Bay and a failure to appear charge, both from November 2013, and the youth also faces a charge of mischief and an additional breach of probation charge stemming from April 19.

Because the more serious Saskatoon charges take precedence over the North Battleford charges, counsel has agreed that all matters will be dealt with in Saskatoon.

All three accused are remanded in custody and are to appear in provincial court in Saskatoon Friday morning on the Saskatoon and North Battleford charges.
