Operation Crossroads, which took place across the province Aug. 22 and 23, was the second safety blitz to focus on the issue of intersection safety.

Once again, non-seatbelt use and the cell phone use while driving were also targeted by law and traffic enforcement.

According to police reports submitted as of Aug. 27, law enforcement issued 516 tickets to Saskatchewan motorists throughout the two-day blitz, including 216 for improper or non-seatbelt use, 51 for cell phone use while driving, 38 for disobeying red lights or stop signs and almost 90 for speeding.

In co-ordinating these monthly traffic safety blitzes, SGI and law enforcement partners aim to raise awareness of various traffic safety issues to make the roads safer for all Saskatchewan motorists. The last co-ordinated traffic safety blitz, Operation Hang Up, Buckle Up, Gear Up, took place in June 2012, and saw more than 700 tickets issued, including more than 200 for improper or non-seatbelt use, nearly 90 for cell phone use while driving, and six for motorcycle-related offences.
