At a meeting called by the city of North Battleford to address public safety, several members of the RCMP offered their suggestions on ways in which individuals can do their own part to help secure their property and stay safe.
The RCMP is urging people to lock their car doors and remove items of value from the vehicles - money, satellite radios and other items - as a way to deter criminals.
Citizens are urged to have property emergency numbers on hand at all times. Also, to take pictures of property and serial numbers as reference in case of theft.
When going out alone, make sure to tell friends or family.
Get to know the neighbours and be aware of general surroundings at all times.

For those who are not willing to come forward with information about crime for whatever reason, the option is Crime Stoppers which allows anonymous report on crime. Its website is www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
If a drug house or gang activity is suspected, note the details of the activity and then notify the RCMP.
As well, RCMP is urging people to get involved in crime reduction programs and the reporting of crimes. Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt has pledged RCMP assistance in organizing Neighbourhood Watch programs in individual neighbourhoods and urged local residents at Monday's meeting to sign up.
