The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce has welcomed a number of measures brought in by the province Friday to address COVID-19.
Chamber CEO Steve McLellan welcomed the measures, which include a self-isolation support program, three month PST remittance deferral and audit suspension, student loan repayment moratorium and employment standards regulation changes. The Saskatchewan Chamber said they have had ongoing communication with federal and provincial officials to ensure it gets information and details to the Saskatchewan business community.
“The changes to the layoff notice policy will be a great benefit to both employees and employers,” McLellan said in a news release.
“As well as offering some degree of certainty for business, this also allows everyone time to make plans for the future. Employees retain their jobs, it keeps them attached to the business, and allows them easier access to EI. We had asked the province for this change and we thank Minister Morgan for his leadership in getting it passed.”
McLellan voiced confidence that “ that while the world is facing enormous challenges right now, our collective strength will serve us well and we will get through this.”
