A release issued by the provincial government says Access Prairies Partnership, the selected proponent for the Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford replacement, will be on site this week to begin work needed to prepare for construction.
For the duration of construction, the Jersey Street access to the facility will be closed at the north side of the bridge starting Tuesday, Aug. 18. Two alternate roads are in place to access the existing facility – one at Canola Avenue and another along Riverside Drive.
The site pre-construction work includes construction of fencing and some clearing and levelling to establish a site office.
Cement trucks pouring the fence post footings, as well as dump trucks and an excavator, will be on-site. This is site preparation work only and not work on the actual facility.
The new Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford provincial psychiatric facility is a design-build-finance-maintain public-private partnership (P3). The new 188-bed facility will have 32 more beds and an integrated 96-room correctional centre that will provide support for offenders living with mental health issues.
The announcement that a new hospital would be built on the existing SHNB grounds near the current 102-year-old hospital building was made last April. It was at that time that it became public knowledge that the new Saskatchewan Hospital would include an integrated correctional facility to house both male and female adult offenders.
Access Prairies Partnership was one of three groups shortlisted in the bidding process and the awarding of the tender was announced in early July.
Access Prairies Partnership includes a number of partners including Graham Design Builders LP, Carillion Canada Inc., Gracorp Capital Advisors LP, Carillion Private Finance Ltd., Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. and WSP Canada.
The province has estimated construction on the publicly owned facility to be completed by the spring of 2018.
