The Saskatchewan government announced last month that minimum wage will see an increase in October.

The wage will increase from $10.96 to $11.06 by the fall, according to a Government of Saskatchewan press release.

With the increase, Saskatchewan will just edge out Nova Scotia for the lowest minimum wage in the country.

Supported Employ-ment Coordinator, Niamh Menz, with the Humboldt and District Community Services, says she hopes local businesses will not be significantly impacted by the changes because she hopes many employers start their new hires above minimum wage.

“Employers are getting smart now and making people feel good by going ahead of the minimum wage.”

Ten cents will not break the bank on most people, she says, but this also depends on the amount of workers within a company who are at minimum wage.

However, wage increases are not standard across the board, and the middle class does not see huge increases.

“You find that middle class stumbling to get ahead because they won’t see an increase,” she says.
