NIPAWIN — According to SaskPower, the planned 8,250 sq. ft. Nipawin SaskPower facility is estimated to cost $4.7 million.

The estimated cost includes the purchase of land, project management, design and furnishing.

The facility will serve the surrounding area, replacing SaskPower’s current building in town as well as facilities in Carrot River and Porcupine Plain.

“It’s going to be a regional maintenance outpost,” said Joel Cherry, SaskPower spokesperson. “The facility that we have in Nipawin right now is old and needs a lot of maintenance to keep functioning, and that’s one of the reasons we’re investing in the new facility, to meet our needs for years to come.”

The Nipawin outpost is expected to be operational in mid-2023.

An additional facility is planned to be built in Hudson Bay.
