School cancelled for derailment

School was cancelled in Landis Wednesday as a precaution after 16 cars went off the CN rail line just west of the town. The derailment caused a grass fire, which was extinguished by the Willkie and Biggar fire departments.

School was cancelled in Landis Wednesday as a precaution after 16 cars went off the CN rail line just west of the town.

The derailment caused a grass fire, which was extinguished by the Willkie and Biggar fire departments. The scene was also attended by Unity RCMP.

HAZMAT personnel were also on the scene, along with CN Police. One of the cars had leaked oil, however the specific size of the leak was unknown as of Wednesday morning.

None of the derailed cars caught fire and there were no injuries as a result of the derailment.
