School division to centralize staff in Humboldt

The Horizon School Division, which includes Humboldt Public School and Humboldt Collegiate Institute, is planning to centralize its entire support staff in Humboldt sometime in the near future.

The Horizon School Division, which includes Humboldt Public School and Humboldt Collegiate Institute, is planning to centralize its entire support staff in Humboldt sometime in the near future.

The move to centralize operations began in October 2011 and accelerated with the closing of the Wadena office at the end of the 2012-13 school year. The transportation department, formerly based in Wadena, has been moved to Humboldt.
"The efficiencies that can be realized by centralized operations are far too advantageous to ignore," said Marc Danylchuk, the school division's director of education.

The next step in the process was approved by the board of education on Sept. 10 and will consist of staff from Lanigan moving to Humboldt in the near future. According to board of education chair Jim Hack, having offices so far apart was an unnecessary inconvenience.

"It is simply not efficient to have our staff members who must rely on each other for support and information working miles apart," Hack said. "The access to staff, services and other efficiencies that will be realized over time by centralizing in Humboldt will be substantial indeed."

The City of Humboldt is also looking forward to the move, according to city manager James Moller.

"City council and administration are very encouraged to hear of the school division's decision to relocate their office to Humboldt and believe this will have a profound social and economic impact on our community," Moller said by email. "This move will provide many long term benefits for our organizations ability to foster a stronger organizational relationship. We have already shared much success in our relationship, as the joint-use agreements between both organizations were put into effect at the beginning of this year. We look forward to the new opportunities that will be presented as we continue to work with one another in a collaborative manner."
