NIPAWIN — A semi-truck proved too tall for residential roads in Nipawin after it pulled down  SaskTel fibre optic cables.

On June 27, at 8:56 pm, the Nipawin Fire Department was dispatched to a call of downed power lines in town. It was reported to the department that a semi had made contact with overhead power lines.

Upon arrival, crews determined that the affected lines were SaskTel fibre optic cables.

“A semi-driver was in a residential area, and of course the semi was too tall or too high for that area and that’s why that snagged the fibre optic cable and pulled it down,” said Brian Starkell, Nipawin’s fire chief.

SaskPower was notified to check the power poles to ensure that they were not damaged. SaskTel arrived on scene and completed a temporary repair until the SaskTel construction crew from Prince Albert could arrive the next morning.

There were no injuries.
