The Seniors' Drop-In Centre in Maidstone held their annual Christmas supper and program Dec. 11.
More than 100 people attended enjoying a traditional Christmas dinner prepared by members of the Catholic church followed by entertainment provided by members and guests.
Vince Gerlinsky provided music on his keyboard and led a set of carols to finish the evening.
After the meal everyone got comfortable as they waited for the skits and readings. MC Joan Smith kept everything flowing while linking the acts to the season and the lives of the audience.
The cast of No Frills Airline Travel was first to take the stage. The original piece poked fun at the decline in services and brought together a cast of zany characters including a terrorist, a frightened flyer strengthened by liquid courage, an air marshal in disguise and a woman who packed way too much, including her pet cat.
Another skit brought together a child and a teacher, reminding those former teachers of some of the challenges and joys.
There were poignant verses and humourous poems read to the delight of those in attendance. During the program Smith reminded guests that the minimum age for membership in the centre is 50 years. The centre offers exercises, meetings, card games, bingo, potluck suppers and more.
"We are looking for new members and would appreciate it if you would consider joining the Seniors' Drop-In Centre," Smith said.
"As well as some work and responsibilities, there is friendship, companionship and new and fun challenges to be had. You could even be the star of next year's Christmas skit! Think about it."
There was time to visit and the simple joys of fruit cake and Christmas oranges.
"Being young is beautiful but being old is comfortable," said Smith during the event.
The Maidstone Seniors' Drop-In Centre is a comfortable and happy place for members during the holiday season and throughout the year.
