Sentencing commenced Monday for a woman accused of cocaine-dealing in Battleford.

Kim Geering was being sentenced for trafficking cocaine under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Sentencing is far from being concluded, however. The case returns to North Battleford Provincial Court Monday, June 10.

The charge stems from May 2012 when RCMP executed an undercover operation in which Geering was one of the targets.

According to facts outlined in court Monday before Judge David Kaiser, Geering provided small amounts of cocaine to undercover officers in Battleford on two separate occasions in late May 2012.

On each occasion, the quantities of cocaine were presented as one gram. The actual amounts proved smaller in quantity. Defence lawyer Don MacKinnon pointed out in court that the amount was .3 grams on the first occasion and .5 grams on the second.

Geering is also accused of breaching an undertaking to keep the peace following two separate theft incidents in the community. The Crown called for a minimum 18-month custodial sentence while the defence called for a more lenient outcome.
