The Canadian Legion of Riders held their first fish fry fundraiser Feb. 4 at Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 70 in North Battleford.
The weather on the plus side, which made it enjoyable for the cooks outside. The menu included fresh beer battered, commercially caught whitefish from Lac La Ronge, home cut fries and coleslaw along with all the condiments. Organizers couldn't count the compliments received on the spread ,as most couldn't resist going up for seconds and a few brave soles waddled up for thirds.
Along with the great food there were 50/50 draws, support gear, stickers and pins, as well as 2012 memberships. The Gold Eagle Casino donated a huge stainless steel barbecue set for the membership draw. It was won by Calvin Shumlich.
The Canadian Legion of Riders executive appreciate the support of Legion Branch No.70 Volunteers for looking after the bar, Gordon Hildebrand for the music, Penni, Erin, Maureen, Joanne, and Becky in the kitchen, Jack and Greg helping out with the preparation and cooking.
The event was also supported by the community and businesses of North Battleford and the surrounding area. Bob McKay of Battlefords Funeral Services, surprised the organization with another cash donation. McKay has been a huge supporter of the organization.
