The theatre component of the Credit Union CUPlex will not be ready as quickly as had been hoped.

The completion date for the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts has been pushed back a couple of months, confirms Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson. The reason is a "manpower issue with the electrical side of things," Anderson told reporters.

Substantial completion had previously been slated for Dec. 20 on the building and Jan. 20 on the theatre, but now it has been moved back to February on the building and March on the theatre.

What it ultimately means is that it will be early spring when the theatre finally opens, instead of a late-winter opening.

Anderson indicated there was the possibility of further delays a memo to council updating them on the status of the project. The delay was confirmed to him following a site meeting.

"We're encouraging the electrical company to get more staff on site and we're looking at other solutions as well," said Anderson to reporters.

Otherwise, Anderson said things are still on track with the rest of the CUPlex project, as construction continues on the four components.
