SHA update on status of patients from James Smith tragedy

SHA says 10 patients remain in hospital — three are critical , seven are stable, and since Sunday seven have been discharged.

A total of 17 people were admitted to hospital in connection to the incident in northeast Saskatchewan this weekend.

REGINA —  Saskatchewan Health Authority has provided an update on the status of patients from the incident Sunday at James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon.

The SHA has confirmed it has admitted 17 individuals to hospitals within the province in relation to Sunday’s events. As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, SHA says 10 patients remain in hospital. Three are in critical condition, seven are stable and, since Sunday, seven have been discharged.

Hospitals where the patients are receiving care are not being disclosed. 

SHA states it is working on deployment of mental health resources to families, communities, physicians and staff impacted.

The SHA is also actively reaching out to Prince Albert Grand Council, James Smith Cree Nation and other community partners in the area to offer support.
