The Battlefords RCMP are continuing to investigate a shooting incident that occurred in the morning hours of Friday, Sept. 11 in North Battleford that resulted in a “secure and hold” action at North Battleford Comprehensive High School.
RCMP were quick to respond to this complaint to ensure public safety, says a release issued Friday afternoon. The release indicates that at about 8:35 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a suspicious person in the area of Douglas Avenue near St. Laurent Drive. Shortly after the report, multiple shots were fired in the area, causing property damage.
No persons were injured as a result of the discharge of this firearm.
The suspect was observed running from the area with the firearm still in hand. Battlefords RCMP made a concerted effort to locate the suspect with the assistance of Police Dog Service, Battlefords Provincial and Municipal General Investigation Sections. Battlefords Forensic Identification Section attended the scene gathering evidence to assist in furthering the investigation.
As the event took place within several blocks of the nearby high school, a "secure and hold" action was conducted by the school staff with the assistance of the RCMP School Liaison Officer.
The "secure and hold" action was conducted as a precaution and to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The suspect remains at large and the matter remains under investigation.
