Shooting suspect Fineday elects trial

Justin Fineday has elected trial by judge and jury. His preliminary hearing has been set for April 14, 2014 and runs to April 16.

Fineday faces several charges in connection to a shooting incident on the morning of Sept. 1 in the vicinity of Diefenbaker Drive and St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford.

They include use of a firearm in connection to an aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of stolen property, possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, committing an offence with face disguised or masked and failure to comply with a probation order. Several new weapons-related and other charges have also been filed.

Fineday is one of three accused in the case. His co-accused, Valen Nicotine, is scheduled to return to provincial court Dec. 23. A third accused, a youth, has plead guilty to accessory to aggravated assault with a firearm, breach of probation and a firearms offence. A decision on sentencing in his case is due Nov. 12.
