The new Sobeys Liquor store in Tisdale has opened its doors.
Bryce Kryzanowski, the store’s manager, said locals were eager to check out the new store Feb. 9.
“[There was] a lot of excitement on people’s faces,” he said. “We had a lot of people come in right off the bat and you can tell people are eager to get in, see what we have in the store.”
The 4,000 square foot store located on Highway #3 was announced June 19, along with a new Tim Hortons. The two buildings were built and are owned by the Canalta Group, but are operated by their respective businesses.
Kryzanowski said before the store was open, there were lot of questions about what there would be. The store has the products found at the old government-owned liquor store and some new ones. The store also accepts Air Miles. There’s also the growler bar.
“The growler bar that we have here has been going steady, he said. “We had our guy do fills all morning and I don’t think he had a dead time at all yet.”
The store is the only Sobeys Liquor branch in the Northeast. The company chose Tisdale due to its central location in the region, which gives access to more customers.
There are 10 to 12 staff working at the new store.
“Everybody’s new to it, everybody’s excited to learn,” Kryzanowski said. “We’ve been doing the opening processes for a few weeks now and we’ve had everyone that we’ve hired in helping with that process.”
Kryzanowski said he believes the liquor store has made a good first impression.
“You see everybody smiling when they leave, so you can tell they like coming in and that the service that they’ve been given’s good.”
