A large blue recycling bin set up near the tourism information booth in Carrot River is being misused.
“The idea was that it would be mostly used by the R.M. of Moose Range residents as well as Town of Carrot River residents for overflow and for larger cardboard items you can’t fit into your small blue bin,” Kevin Trew, the town’s administrator, told council at its Dec. 21 meeting.
Instead, a small number of businesses have chosen to stop paying for their small blue bin and are directing all their recycling to the shared bin by the booth.
Trew has even had employees of some of these businesses complain about the shared bin being too full.
Council is now considering measures to encourage businesses that rent recycling bins, or discourage businesses who don’t.
