The community of St. Gregor will have some help in keeping their hall running thanks to a recent grant from Canada’s Farmers Grow Communities (CFGC) grant through the Monsanto Fund.

Local farmer, Tracy Mollenbeck, says there is a lot more to the hall than just a building, it is a gathering place for everything from coffee times to birthdays and weddings.

“All the small towns are struggling. (The hall) is the hub of our community where we have coffee and our post office. It was very important to help with some funding,” says Mollenbeck.

With everyone’s busy lives, that fellowship and gathering together disappears. The hall helps keep social time possible, she says.

Funding through grants and fundraising is nothing new for St. Gregor with annual fundraisers to keep the post office manned in the St. Gregor Hall, says Brad Michel, head of the St. Gregor hall committee.

Money from the grant will go towards general upkeep and keeping the doors open, says Mollenbeck.
