STAR CITY — A new event in Star City is an opportunity for families to get together and have fun.
“It’s something to bring the community together and just an opportunity for kids who can’t go away to camp and don’t have the funds and stuff like that to go on summer holidays, just something fun for everybody to do at a low cost,” said Crystal Smith administrative assistant for Star City town hall.
It starts off with a pancake breakfast put on by the fire brigade, followed by a town-wide garage sale, then a bouncy castle and activities at the sports grounds. The evening will have live rock music.
This is the first year this event has happened, but it is based off a previous street dance event.
“This is kind of like a spin-off of that, but yeah. First time for this Family Fun Day,” Smith said.
Star City hopes to make this an annual event.
“We kind of had a brainstorming session, everybody got together who wanted to be involved, and put our heads together and came up with this. Definitely a community organized event.”
Some of the events have a fee but Smith says it is “cost recovery”.
“There’s no admission for the dance or anything, but you will be charged for like beer if you want beer,” Smith said. “O’ the Taste Catering is putting on the supper so she said the price is for that, she’s kind of taking care of that. The bouncy castle will be free, the town has donated some money for that.”
As of July 30, town hall is still calculating grants and isn’t sure how much it will cost, or make, the town.
“It’s kind of going to be an annual thing, so whatever comes out of this we’ll just put right back in the bank, into that little separate fund.”
The Family Fun Day takes place on Aug. 11, and starts at 8 a.m.
