Henriette Schultz of Debden, Saskatchewan is a farmwife who is enjoying her newfound talent of cross-stitching. This interesting and wonderful hobby provides her with an opportunity to create realistic cross-stitch portraits.

Having only learned the art of cross-stitch in 2005, Henriette is incredibly skilled with the art. Although she may be among the many people who enjoy cross-stitching as a hobby, she enjoys creating projects that are picture-perfect. She began her cross-stitch journey with a counted kit and upon completion thought there must be a better way to create these beautiful pieces of art without having to count the stitches. This is when she discovered cross-stitch portraits and computer software.

The desired photograph is scanned and the installed computer software produces a symbol chart, indicating all the colors of floss required for the project, and a workable grid for the photo. The computer enables her to enlarge the picture to the desired size.

Using 14 count aida cloth, Henriette proceeds to draw out the grid onto the cloth using a washable marking pen.

Because some pictures can require up to 100 different shades, it can be a challenge to organize all the required floss. Henriette categorizes her floss according to symbols and stores it on a convenient floss organizer. Another organizer allows her to keep multiple threaded needles available while stitching, eliminating the need to rethread just one needle. A conversion chart between yarn companies can be accessed enabling her to maximize her inventory.

Henriette works comfortably from her desk in the corner of the living room where two large picture windows provide natural light. Quality artificial light options assist her in the evenings, especially during the winter.

Modern technology has contributed to the success of Henriette's projects. You will be amazed to discover that practically any image can be converted and made into a custom cross-stitch pattern.

Why not picture your pet in cross-stitch? Henriette will also complete projects of favourite pets, buildings, and flowers. Cross-stitch is the medium that lends itself to portraiture; she will use long and short stitches to create the most realistic likeness of your pet. The detail of the thousands of tiny cross-stitches, hand sewn by Henriette, and the striking resemblance of the finished cross-stitch picture is inspiring.

Rewards are priceless. She admits total enjoyment from beginning to end even after she has handed the piece over to the framer, she admits that she can't wait to see what he has done to complement her piece of art.

The artistic cross-stitch is not just a picture but can be a living legacy for families. These pieces make great gifts for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions and Henriette is pleased to be part of the process.
