RCMP have identified a man who was found dead under suspicious cirumstances in Kerrobert Wednesday as 53-year-old Johan Kassen Sr.
A man has been arrested in connection to Klassen's death. Police say a report of a stolen semi from a farm yard in the rural area north of Kerrobert led to the man's arrest. Police were provided with a description of the semi and the driver as well as the direction of travel.
Kindersley RCMP say the search for the semi began immediately and assistance from neighbouring detachments was requested. The semi was quickly located stuck in a slough near the Alberta border, northwest of Luseland, in the RM of Heart's Hill. The semi was in approximately one metre of water, about 30 metres from shore. Police say the man inside refused to get out of the semi. The scene was secured to ensure police and public safety and the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team was deployed to the scene to assist.
Police say the man was taken into custody at around 2 p.m. Wednesday.
All travel restrictions in the area have now ended. However, residents can still expect to see a continued increased police presence at the scene northwest of Luseland and in the town of Kerrobert. Residents are asked to respect all police barricades and any direction given by police at these locations. RCMP are also thanking the public for their cooperation during the incident.
