Prairie North Health Region is revamping their policies after a River Heights Lodge employee allegedly stole around $14,000.

Prairie North Health Region is revamping their policies after a River Heights Lodge employee allegedly stole around $14,000.

Irene Denis, vice-president of Corporate Services for PNHR, said RCMP were notified immediately after the shortage was discovered.

Finding the suspect wasn't too difficult, according to Denis, who said the employee in question has been dismissed.

"There are not a lot of people handling those funds," she said.

The money was stolen from both the Lodge and from residents' personal funds.

"We're very apologetic and we sincerely regret any anxiety that was caused to the patients, their families and the staff as a result of this," said Denis.

She went on to explain the organization has learned from this experience and is in the process of changing the way funds are handled.

"The finance department has reviewed their policies and procedures and ensured that there's more segregation of duties," said Denis.

RCMP Sgt. Rob Lutzko said the matter is still under investigation and no charges have been laid.
