An investigation into the circumstances of a man being injured during his arrest will be carried out by RCMP, who have also asked for an independent observer to be appointed.
The investigation stems from an incident Saturday, Aug. 29.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., Shellbrook RCMP received a complaint of a stabbing on the Mistawasis First Nation. An adult male suspect had been identified. Due to their proximity to the incident, Blaine Lake RCMP responded to the incident.
Members located the individual walking on a back road on Mistawasis First Nation. He was detained and searched, resulting in cocaine and cash being located on him.
After the search, the suspect ran from police into a nearby field. While being pursued by members, the suspect sustained what was described as a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man from Saskatoon, was examined by EMS and transported to Shellbrook Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was released from police custody, so RCMP do not have any health updates on him.
Two adult male victims from the initial stabbing complaint were treated for their injuries and released at the scene by EMS.
The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing and charges against the 20-year-old suspect are pending.
