Suspects throw ballots into fire

Wednesday, during a band byelection taking place on Poundmaker Cree Nation, Cut Knife RCMP received a complaint that two adult males entered the building where voting was taking place, took the ballot boxes outside and threw them into a fire.

Wednesday, during a band byelection taking place on Poundmaker Cree Nation, Cut Knife RCMP received a complaint that two adult males entered the building where voting was taking place, took the ballot boxes outside and threw them into a fire.

The two suspects left the scene in a vehicle.

One 34-year-old male from Poundmaker First Nation was arrested by police shortly after the incident and has since been released. Charges are pending against him.

As of Friday afternoon, police were also seeking a 35-year-old male from Poundmaker First Nation in relation to this incident.

Cut Knife RCMP continues to investigate.
