Suspicious character shoveling snow for cash

Battlefords RCMP attended 25 calls between 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 and 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.

According to Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt, the calls ranged from 911 to alarms, intoxicated persons, property damage and vehicle collisions

Tuesday

6:10 a.m. - Call received from a woman reporting suspicious activity on the 700 block of 101st Street. Members responded to the complaint and were unable to locate any persons in the area. The caller did not leave any call back information. Efforts to identify the caller and speak with her again were negative.

8:45 a.m. - Youth caught shoplifting at a business located on the 1800 block of 100th Street. The youth was under the age of 12 and was taken home to their parents. Cautioned under the YCJA.

9:02 a.m. - Motor vehicle collision on the Battlefords bridge. Minor damage to vehicles, no injuries.

9:03 a.m. - Two youths unlawfully at large from Drumming Hill Youth Centre. One of the youths was arrested later in the day. Police are still making efforts to locate the second escapee.

2:28 p.m. - Two-vehicle collision on the 1200 block of 100th Street. Both vehicles were not driveable and had to be towed from the scene. There were no injuries to the persons in the vehicles.

4:45 p.m. - Intoxicated male removed from a residence for breach of the peace.

4:47 p.m. - 911 call made from a female caller reporting there were people in her residence and she wanted them removed. Members responded to the call and the woman called again advising the persons had left after she called police.

4:50 p.m. - Report of suspicious activity as there was a subject checking vehicles on Killdeer Drive. Patrols made and subject located. No charges were laid as a result of the investigation.

7:11 p.m. - Complaint of suspicious activity as there was a male carrying a shovel at the caller's residence. Patrols made and a male subject fitting the description was located in the area shovelling sidewalks for money.

10:18 p.m. - Complainant called to report an assault with a weapon. Investigation revealed that the complainant's son had pointed a can of disinfectant at the complainant and threatened to spray in the face. Both parties spoken to and no charges resulted in this matter and there were no injuries.

Wednesday

1:18 a.m. - Complaint of mischief to vehicle as the caller reported that there were youths attempting to get into his vehicle. Patrols made and no youths were located. Entry was not gained to the vehicle and there was no damage.

2:56 a.m. - Complaint of theft of vehicle. Caller advised that son had left the residence and taken car without consent. Caller called back a few minutes later to report the vehicle was back but damaged. Complainant did not want charges pursued.

4:47 a.m. - Complaint of an intoxicated male lying on the street on the 1100 block of 108th Street. There had been three other males outside near this male who fled the scene prior to police arrival. The intoxicated male was transported to BUH by WPD Ambulance and was breathing but not alert. Extent of injuries to the intoxicated male are unknown.

4:56 a.m. - 911 complaint of a domestic dispute where the complainant was in his vehicle and the 911 operator could hear a woman yelling at the complainant from outside the vehicle and banging on the door. The caller would not provide any location information and hung up on the operator.

Police are advising motorists to drive with caution as the roads are snow packed and slippery. Take extra time for travel and pay close attention to the road conditions. Drivers are also advised to ensure all snow and frost is cleared from windows to ensure good visibility, which will assist in the prevention of motor vehicle collisions.
