Three communities celebrating centennials

The communities of Blaine Lake, Leask and Waldheim with be celebrating their centennial year in 2012. The community of Blaine Lake will be hosting its festivities Aug. 3 to 5 commencing Aug. 3 with registration and social.

The community of Blaine Lake will be hosting its festivities Aug. 3 to 5 commencing Aug. 3 with registration and social. A continental breakfast Saturday morning will begin the day followed by a parade, the unveiling of the centennial monument and a variety of activities for all ages throughout the afternoon. A steak supper and street dance flow into evening entertainment following with fireworks at dusk. Sunday consists of an interdenominational church service, continuation of activities and a threshing demonstration. Updated and detailed information can be found by visiting www.blainelake.ca.

The community of Leask will celebrate its centennial June 29 to July 1, in conjunction with Canada Day festivities. Registration and 100-year memorabilia will be on display at the Legion Hall while Saskia and Darrel entertain at the Lions Hall Friday June 29. The Leask Centennial Committee have a variety of activities planned throughout the weekend including a farmers' market, car show, talent show, astro-jumps for the children, ball hockey, bocce and horseshoe games. Saturday evening concludes with a banquet limited to 250 per seating and a dance. Sunday begins with an ecumenical service followed by the continuation of activities. Waldheim Centennial Committee has been busy with preparations for the Aug. 3 to 5 celebrations. The title for the celebrations is 100 Years in the Forest Waldheim Centennial. The tentative schedule includes the "Old Merchant" ball game and a "town versus country" ball game Friday to kick off the celebrations. Saturday will include a firemen's pancake breakfast, parade, Taste of the Valley offering a variety of vendors, street fair with live local entertainment and children's play area, both a horticulture and arts and crafts show, garden walk, old rural school gathering, youth events, show and shine, and a banquet to end the day. Sunday will be a wind-up day beginning with a church service in the park.

A new Waldheim town logo is in the offing with calls for public input. It will be unveiled during the centennial weekend. For more information visit the town website at www.waldheim.ca
