What started out as a report of shoplifting ended as an arrest of three people in a field northeast of North Battleford Monday afternoon.

According to Battlefords RCMP, plainclothes members assisted a local business owner in an attempt to apprehend suspected shoplifters at about 2 p.m. on the 1100 block of 100th Street.

The suspects got into a vehicle, later confirmed to be stolen from Saskatoon, and fled at a high rate of speed north on 100th Street. No police units pursued.

Police say the vehicle was then reported to be stuck in a field northeast of the city and three people were seen walking away from the vehicle. The ensuing search for the suspects continued for more than three hours before all three were apprehended.

A 31-year-old man from Saskatoon is facing charges of possession of stolen property, theft and dangerous driving.  He is also charged with attempted break and enter after police allege he tried to force his way into a home on an acreage north of the city shortly before his arrest.

A 15-year-old from Borden has been charged with theft, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and failing to comply with probation.

A 30-year-old Saskatoon woman has been charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and theft.

All three remain in custody and are scheduled to make their first appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

Battlefords detachment members, RCMP dog units for North Battleford and Meadow Lake and Saskatoon Police Service members in the city on other matters were all involved in the search. The Saskatoon Police Service plane was also employed.  Police say numerous local members of the public were also instrumental in assisting members in the safe apprehension of all three suspects.
