Mrs. Mary Ukrainetz of Tisdale came the first resident of Newmarket Manor, Tisdale’s new special care facility on the morning of March 1 [1988].
Mrs. Ukrainetz has been a resident of the Tisdale area since 1932, when she moved here from Tuffnel, Sask.
Mrs. Elsie Pritchard, daughter of Mrs. Ukrainetz, says her mother seems to be adjusting to her new residence quite well. Mrs. Ukrainetz has already celebrated a birthday in her new home as she turned 86 on March 4.
Mrs. Pritchard also commented on how nice the new facility is and on how conscientious the staff is. Larry Baird, administrator with the Tisdale and District Housing Company, said he expects Newmarket Manor to reach its full occupancy of 40 residents by the end of March.
The new facility can best be described as bright and cheery, thanks to the overall decor of the building. It has a warm welcoming atmosphere that will be enjoyed by the new residents.
Some of the fine features of the new facility include the easy accessibility of each of the resident wings to the nurses’ station, and a beautiful greenhouse incorporated into the facility for the pleasure of the residents. These features illustrate the building’s design consideration for a resident’s health care and his or her personal well-being.
Mr. Baird also said donations are still being accepted for the new facility. Recently they have received $3,000 donations for the furnishing of a room in the new facility from Denis and Dorthea Phillips, Mrs. Joseph Sergi and the Leacross Community Recreation Club.
Baird said to date they have received $144,159.85 and have a goal of $200,000.
