A common wish of Tisdale residents is coming true – the town is getting a second grocery store.

Buy-Low Foods, part of the Jim Pattison Group, has started development on a brand-new 25,000 square foot grocery store located at the corner of  Highway #3 and Highway #35 across from KG Car Wash.

“This is a great day for Tisdale and a great day for northeast Saskatchewan,” said Al Jellicoe, Tisdale’s mayor, in a media release. “We are extremely pleased that Buy-Low Foods has chosen Tisdale for their first grocery store in the province.”

The store, expected to open at the end of this year, will feature a full lineup of groceries, frozen goods, dairy, meat – cut in store, produce, a deli and a bakery.

“We are thrilled to be commencing construction on our first Saskatchewan location here in the fine community of Tisdale, said Dan Bregg, the president of Buy-Low Foods, in a media release. “We can’t wait to showcase all the best we have to offer to the community when the store opens at the end of this year.”

The store is expected to create 50 to 70 new jobs in the community once open, plus any jobs generated during the construction of the facility.

Sean Wallace, the town’s economic development officer, said there are many benefits to having Buy-Low come to Tisdale.

“Competition will benefit consumers, create employment and create investment opportunities in our community,” he said.

Bregg said he looks forward to getting to know Tisdale and having the chain getting involved in the community.
