TISDALE — Jamie Lynx, a 31-year-old Tisdale man, has pled guilty and been sentenced to 75 days in prison for a series of charges, including pointing a pellet gun at a neighbour during an argument.

On Aug. 29, shortly after 1 a.m., Tisdale RCMP were dispatched to a call of a man pointing a firearm at his neighbour.

Witnesses said the man was seen placing something behind a tree, before speaking to the neighbours, who gave him cigarettes.

“The accused was asked to leave, because he was being disrespectful. The accused was rambling and was told to leave again,” said Patrick Durham, the crown prosecution in the mutually agreed statement of facts between the defendant and the prosecution. “The witnesses gave the accused more cigarettes so he would go. The witnesses reported that the accused was intoxicated and was slurring his words.”

While leaving, the man grabbed a pellet gun from behind the tree, which witnesses mistook for a shotgun.

RCMP said the pellet gun was a realistic replica of an AR-15.

One of the neighbours fought the man for control over the object.

“The situation resolved as the accused ended up running away with the firearm, which was later discovered to be an imitation firearm.”

Lynx’s charges included causing a disturbance, possession of an imitation weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public, breach of release order and breach of probation.

In the sentencing, Judge Thomas Healey said it appeared the defendant had a “real addiction issue with alcohol.”

“You have to take some steps to get your alcoholism under control,” Healey said to him during the sentencing.

“If you carry on as you are doing, sir, I can tell you you’re going to end up in this box more, and more, and more – and that’s not going to help you.”

As well as his sentence, the defendant is also barred from owning any firearm, crossbow or restricted weapon for 10 years.

He has received credit for the 39 days spent in custody before the hearing, which brings the total days remaining to 36.
