TISDALE — Despite the best efforts of Mother Nature, the races went on at the Tisdale Motor Speedway.

A short downpour just before the July 7 races were to start affected the condition of the track, but not enough to cancel the races. Brice Dahlin, the winner of the hobby class, said that affected how he approached the first race.

“After all of the rain and the mud, I was just wanting to stay on the track and not get into too much trouble at first,” the Norquay-based racer said. “After the first heat, it went pretty well, so then my goal was to stay out in front.”

Ryan Atkings, the winner of the street class, said as he prepared to race, he focused on keeping his nose clean, avoid any crashes and finish the races. During that first heat, the Zenon Park-based racer said it was hard to get traction as there was only one groove, so he focused on avoiding spinning while keeping his speed up.

Other than that, he said the track was in good condition.

“It was wide open going in, I burped the throttle and just felt the car grab traction and rolled on out.”

For Dahlin, the most exciting part was during the feature race, where he started at the back and passed all of the cars with a little skill, a little luck and a little pushing.

“The car’s working good, coming off the corners really hard, faster than most by the look of it, so that’s where we were getting them, coming off the corners.”

Dahlin said he was excited to win the hobby class,

“The last time I was here, I got passed on the last lap, so I just wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again. I was pretty happy I didn’t.”

Atkings was also excited.

“It was nice, clean racing. Nobody got wrecked and I was just happy about that.”
