TISDALE — The Tisdale RCMP responded to five animal complaints over a two week period.
“The animal complaints varied, some of them were dogs on the loose, some of them were complaints of unattended dogs left in residences and one was a complaint of dogs being tied to a post with injuries,” said Cpl. Mike Benjamin with the Tisdale RCMP.
He said in the case of the dog being tied to a post with injuries, the dog had been hit by a car and the owner was in the process of getting him medical care.
The recent case of dogs being on the loose was Sept. 15. Benjamin said nobody was injured in this situation.
“The dogs were located and returned to the owner, and the owner is still being dealt with in one case.”
Benjamin said that while a dog may be friendly to their owner, it doesn’t mean they will be friendly to everyone.
“We had a file where a dog attacked a woman on the street, and the owner was charged,” he said. “This wasn’t in the last two weeks but this is a very common complaint — I’m walking on the street and dogs on the loose coming up and barking and in one case a lady got bit.”
In a situation of dogs being unattended, Benjamin said the owner was located at the scene, supervising the animals from out of sight.
“Turns out they were being supervised.”
If someone does see a dog on the loose, he said calling the RCMP’s detachment number is the proper protocol. The number is 306-878-3810.
“Obviously we want to make sure the dogs are safe as well as people walking on the street aren’t being attacked by stray animals,” Benjamin said. “To the owner a lot of the times the dogs are nice and don’t bite, but that’s the owner that feeds them.”
The Tisdale RCMP responded to 84 calls for service from Sept. 11 to 25. The two week period included two traffic collisions, two complaints of fraud, the five animal complaints, one assault, two impaired drivers taken off the road and one break and enter.
The break and enter was on Sept. 13 at a business in Tisdale. The matter is still under investigation.
“Some items were taken but we’re just waiting for a follow up on that,” Benjamin said.
