TISDALE — The Town of Tisdale is resuming a grant in partnership with the Canalta Hotel to fund Tisdale-hosted multi-day events including tournaments, competitions, conventions and festivals.

The tourism and marketing grant was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic restrictions on events. Past funded events have included provincial curling championships, Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association (SCHA) events, and the Telus Cup West Regional.

Brad Hvidston, Tisdale’s administrator, said the purpose is to encourage events within the community.

“We’re getting back going out of the COVID world and we once again struck a deal with Canalta,” Hvidston said.

“We want to encourage groups to host their multi-day events in Tisdale. There’s lots of different events out there, lots of different provincial organizations out there so we’re trying to get them to host in Tisdale by providing them a little bit of financial assistance and help their event to be successful.”

He said $20,000 will be available for the 2021 year.

“We’re aware that some of the events will happen with or without the grant, but I know there are some events that rely on it.”

Funds are available on a first come, first serve basis with $500 available per application, although Hvidston said they’ve given as much as $2,500 for applicable events. Preference will be given to activities that will increase economic and tourism business, the development and the marketing of those activities.

The fund is not available for family functions or, for on-going weekly or monthly events such as a men’s night golf, weekly curling, or monthly club meetings or annual local annual general meetings.

Grant applications can be filled out at the town office.
