The provincial government proclaimed the Tourism Saskatchewan Act July 1.

The new board of directors has been announced for the tourism department, which will now operate under the Ministry of the Economy.

The new board consists of chair Jack Brodsky of Saskatoon, deputy chair Brian Simpson of Waskesiu, and board members Irene Seiferling, Dana Soonias, Sandra LeBarre, Lionel Tootoosis and Norm Beug.

According to the province, the changes come on the heels of recommendations of the Tourism System Review made public in March, and are designed to better serve the provincial industry and the people and businesses it supports.

In a statement, Brodsky thanked the previous board and staff said the changes will "help to move the industry forward."

"Our new board members are dedicated to carrying on this work and to implementing our vision for this vibrant Saskatchewan industry."
