Brad Anderson wanted a way to bring everyone together to remember his friend.
With the fifth annual Slab Classic in memory of Sheldon Sperling, he is doing just that.
Around 64 golfers will take to the Humboldt Golf Club on July 21 to remember Sperling, who passed away from cancer in 2013.
Anderson says he had known Sperling for 25 years and never met a better guy.
“It just really hit a lot of us hard when he passed. We just wanted to get a bunch of his friends and family together and just remember him on this day of golf and have a fun time.”
Sperling’s wife, children, and parents also enjoy the day spending time with Sperling’s friends and sharing stories about him. Anderson always checks with them first to see if they are up for another year of the event.
He hopes it is getting easier for the family as time goes on but he knows that it is never easy for people to get up and talk about Sperling.
The family has received plenty of support from the community, says Anderson, so the only goal for the tournament is to break even and allow Sperling’s family and friends to have fun together.
