Town receives increased revenue-sharing money

When the provincial government announced the per capita cost of RCMP would increase for communities under 5,000, the same press release stressed the government's contributions to municipalities through revenue-sharing would also increase.

When the provincial government announced the per capita cost of RCMP would increase for communities under 5,000, the same press release stressed the government's contributions to municipalities through revenue-sharing would also increase.

Town councilors learned about the scale of this increase at Monday's council meeting.

In a letter dated Feb. 29, Kathy Rintoul of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs explained the estimated revenue sharing grant for Battleford is $814,995. This represents an increase over last year's amount of $84,261.

Town council had not predicted an amount for the revenue-sharing total, but stressed they "always like to accept more money from the provincial government, the more money they can give us the better."

The sum will go through the budget process and be allocated to offset other cost increases, but it will more than cover the increase in RCMP costs, which had been estimated at $17,000.
