The Town of Battleford will be using a new building inspector as of May 1.
Monday council members passed a bylaw to enter into an agreement with Construction Code Authority, a company incorporated by Ryan Shepherd of North Battleford on June of 2013.
Council also approved a schedule of fees and charges, which Sheryl Ballendine, administrator, said were in line with the previous inspection company's fees. She noted however, that since CCA is a local company, there will be no travel charges.
The Town's previous inspection company was Municode Services Ltd. of Warman.
Mayor Derek Mahon said the Town was looking forward to an ongoing relationship with the new firm, and thanked Municode for the past 17 years of service.
CCA will be charging an all-inclusive inspection fee of $840 for a five-part inspection program on new residential buildings under construction that are single family dwellings and do not exceed 1,500 square feet of finished area, plus an additional $140 for each 500 square foot area over 1,500.
Non-residential buildings and residential buildings that are not single family dwellings or that are larger than 600 square meters would be charged at $4 per $1,000 of construction costs.
A number of other fees were set for additions and renovations as well. GST is payable on all fees.
Ballendine says the cost of the inspection fees is collected from the applicants when they take out their building permits, so there is no cost to the taxpayer.
CCA will be using seven inspectors, including Shepherd, four of whom hold Class 1 licences (authorized to provide enforcement services for one- and two-unit dwellings) and three of whom hold Class 3 licences (authorized to provide enforcement services for any type or size of building under the scope of the National Building Code of Canada, including those covered by Class 1 and Class 2.)
